Rickey Murray, Chief Instructor

Born in 1974, Master Rickey Murray started karate in 1986. Becoming a protégé’ of his instructor, World Champion
Master Tony Young, Sensei Murray received his blackbelt in 1990 and currently holds the ranking of a 4th degree blackbelt
in Goju-Ryu Karate-Do.
Considered an “All- Around Martial
Artist,” Master Murray competes in forms, fighting, and weapons. He also trains with several other past champions such
as Master Amos Postwaite of Rochester, New York, and Master Richard Plowden of Detroit, Michigan.
Considered one of the fastest and smartest fighters in the country, known as “Pretty Rickey,” he is equally dangerous
with his hands and feet. Like a sponge, he listens, learns, and then applies new techniques. He has been a member of several
national teams, including the prestigious SES National Karate Team and the 2000, 2006 & 2007 WKA USA National Team. He
has captured several titles during his martial arts career. These include the Federation of International Karate Association
World Title in 1997, and the AAU Tae Kwon Do National Title in 1999. This title is not considered a small feat, for Goju-Ryu
Martial Artists are not known for their kicking ability. Having a successful year in 2000, he captured a bronze medal at the
WKA World Championships. He has won many national championships in both the NASKA and NBL national circuits throughout the
years.
His knowledge of martial arts is shared in many ways outside
of competition walls. He travels throughout the Southeast conducting fighting seminars and workshops. He also teaches defensive
tactics to Clayton County Georgia Correctional Officers and Members of the U.S. Senate. As a partner in education with Georgia’s
Clayton County Public Schools, Master Murray encourages children of all ages to receive the benefits that martial arts can
bring, such as self-discipline, self-defense, focus, concentration, and an overall positive attitude.
He
teaches a base of American Goju-Ryu with a blend of Sport Karate, Hapkido, Sanuces-Ryu, Tae-Kwon Do, Tia kwa Kung Fu, and
Kenpo. Although Goju-Ryu is the base of his system, Master Murray believes in taking the best of all martial arts. He is a
constant student and readily seeks out his peers and Masters of other systems and styles to train with and share ideas.
Currently a competitor, Master Murray uses his 21 years experience to dominate
the competition scene and is still considered one of the best fighters in the United States.
